Concert Lectures

McIntire Department of Music Associate Professor Richard Will leads our insightful Pre-Concert Lecture series. Professor Will is author of The Characteristic Symphony in the Age of Haydn and Beethoven and of articles and reviews on 18th- and early 19th-century music. The popular professor is also interested in 20th-century American popular music, especially country music and bluegrass, and hosts a bluegrass jam session for UVA graduates and undergraduates. He has received fellowships from the American Philosophical Society, the German Academic Exchange Service, and the American Musicological Society.

Noon Notes

In addition to the popular pre-concert lectures, the Symphony invites you to attend Noon Notes, a brown-bag music lecture series held Fridays at noon before each subscription concert weekend. Noon Notes takes place at the Northside Branch of the Jefferson-Madison Regional Library, located at 300 Albemarle Square in Charlottesville. This lunchtime series is led by Music Director Kate Tamarkin and offers insights about the composers and orchestral works featured in the program. There is no charge and complimentary beverages and nearby parking are provided.
