Youth Concerts have long been a favorite way
to introduce children to the exhilarating experience
of attending a live orchestral performance. The
Charlottesville and University Symphony Orchestra's
first Youth Concerts were presented in
1977. The project always proves popular with students
and has enthusiastic support and assistance from
local music teachers. Because of the continuing
support of area foundations, businesses and individual
contributors, we can ensure that future generations
experience our Youth Concerts and the
thrill of symphonic music.
In
2009, the orchestra presented this popular
annual event, especially designed for fourth and fifth graders,
on October 8 at 10:00 and 11:30am. This year's
performance, Beethoven: Back to the Future, told the story of Beethoven's life, his music, his challenges, and his victories. Beethoven's character was portrayed by Professor Richard Warner of UVA's Department of Drama. Click here to view a WCAV video clip from our 2009 Youth Concert.
